Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eden Hazard named on Ballon d'Or shortlist

Federation Internationale de Football Association are releasing the full 30-man shortlist throughout Monday names are released in alphabetical order with the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric expected to make the shortlist.

Specialist magazine France Football, which has awarded the prize since 1956, announced the 30 nominees for the calendar year trophy, among whom a victor will be chosen by a group of respected football journalists from around the world.

The latest candidates, who are being revealed in alphabetical order, include Thibaut Courtois, 2017 victor Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne, Roberto Firmino and Diego Godin.

Ronaldo and Messi have won the award between them for the last 10 years.

Ronaldo, now at Juventus, won the Champions League for the third season in a row with Madrid, while De Bruyne inspired Manchester City's Premier League and EFL Cup double before a strong World Cup showing.

Real Madrid and Wales forward Gareth Bale and Manchester City's Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne also featured among a list of familiar names.

Four goalkeepers are also among the 30 - Thibaut Courtois of Belgium and Real Madrid, Liverpool and Brazil stopper Alisson Becker, Tottenham's France World Cup victor Hugo Lloris and Atletico's Jan Oblak.

For the first time, a Ballon d'Or for women players will be awarded this year, with Champions League winners Lyon accounting for seven of the 15 nominees.

The award, launched in 1956, recognises the outstanding contribution during a season from one player, with the shortlist voted for by journalists across Europe.
