The U.S. Senate braced for a crucial initial vote Friday on Brett Kavanaugh's tottering Supreme Court nomination after majority leader Mitch McConnell set his polarized chamber on a schedule to decide which party wins an election-season battle royale that has consumed the nation.
"His comments were just plain wrong", Maine's Susan Collins said Wednesday.
Senate judiciary committee Democrats sent a letter on Wednesday to Republican senator Charles Grassley, chair of the committee, calling for "bipartisan ground rules" for how the Federal Bureau of Investigation report can be discussed, expressing concern that there will be an effort to "publicly mischaracterise or selectively leak" its contents.
But Ford has not heard from the FBI as of Tuesday morning as questions mount about the extent of the agency's investigation, her team said told CNN.
"I don't know", Trump repeated multiple times. 'I don't know.' Upstairs, downstairs, where was it? "'I don't remember, '" Trump said at the rally Tuesday in Southaven. "That's the only thing I remember".

Flake is one of a handful of moderate Republicans in the Senate whose votes could seal Kavanaugh's fate. No Republicans have said they will vote against Kavanaugh. It's the "disgrace" of Democrats who have shown "no regard of the process, decency, or standards" of Supreme Court nominee confirmation hearings.
This raises the possibility of conservatives rallying around the Kavanaugh confirmation fight and cutting into the enthusiasm advantage among Democratic women, many of whom who were politically activated when Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016.
The idea that people in the US are wrongfully "guilty until proven innocent" is an idea that wasn't manifesting itself politically on the right until last week, GOP pollster Frank Luntz told The Washington Post. She did not answer a question about whether the comments could affect how she votes on Kavanaugh.
