Trump asks FBI to probe claims against Kavanaugh

According to the report, officials who spoke to NBC on the condition of anonymity "characterized the White House instructions as a significant constraint on the FBI investigation and caution that such a limited scope, while not unusual in normal circumstances, may make it hard to pursue additional leads in a case in which a Supreme Court nominee has been accused of sexual assault".

The tweet followed Trump telling reporters Saturday the FBI had "free rein" in the investigation, which was launched Friday following an emotional hearing Thursday with testimony by Kavanaugh and professor Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her in high school.

As for now, the FBI investigation has a cap of seven days before the report is due and the full Senate body will vote to either approve or deny Judge Kavanaugh's position as an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court.

Republican Senator Jeff Flake speaks during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing about an FBI investigation on Friday.

The Senate judiciary committee on Friday said the FBI's supplemental background investigation "would be limited to current credible allegations" and must be completed in a week.

Kavanaugh wouldn't answer directly when he was asked Thursday if he would agree to an FBI investigation, but said he would do whatever the Judiciary Committee wanted. White House adviser Conway also said she had not discussed the matter with McGahn. Kavanaugh has called her accusations a "joke" and Judge has said he "categorically" denies the allegations.

Wolves wanted Simmons in potential Butler trade
Butler is still in Minneapolis working out while the rest of the team is in California to start the preseason. Butler wants to be traded immediately so the writing seems to be on the wall for a Celtics-Timberwolves deal.

Then Grassley asked the inevitable question, and he did it with relish: if Sanders had been so cocksure that Kavanaugh needed to be defeated, did the fact that he was interested in the new investigation mean he was considering changing his mind?

"The White House should not be allowed to micromanage a FBI investigation", Klobuchar said on CNN.

In August, the ABA stood behind Judge Kavanaugh and found him to be "well qualified" to serve on the Supreme Court. In the most lurid allegation yet, a third woman, Julie Swetnick, has said in a sworn statement that Kavanaugh took part in efforts during high school to get girls intoxicated so that a group of boys could have sex with them.

"But when individuals provide fabricated allegations to the Committee, diverting Committee resources during time-sensitive investigations, it materially impedes our work", Grassley said. "What we've learned is that there is no evidence to corroborate Dr. Ford's allegations". Dick Durbin, a Democrat from IL, said it was his understanding there would be an FBI investigation of "the outstanding allegations, the three of them", but Republicans have not said whether that was their understanding as well.

Avenatti also represents Stormy Daniels, the adult film actor and director who says she had a sexual affair with Trump, a claim the president denies. "I've done everything they have requested and will continue to cooperate", he said in a statement issued by the White House. Ford also claimed that Judge was in the room when the alleged assault took place. "They'll be doing things that we have never even thought of", he said.

Flake was supported by two other Republican moderates, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, both of whom have not announced whether they would support Kavanaugh.
