Senate panel receives new Kavanaugh allegations

28 September 2018

Swetnick, the third woman to come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh, said in a sworn statement the judge was "verbally abusive toward girls", a "mean drunk" and would "spike" the "punch" at high school house parties.

In a declaration released Wednesday by her lawyer Michael Avenatti, Swetnick said Kavanaugh had been present at house parties where women were plied with alcohol and drugs and then repeatedly raped. In a prepared statement issued earlier for tomorrow, Kavanaugh says allegations against him are "grotesque and obvious character assassinations".

Trump is scheduled to hold a news conference on Wednesday afternoon, a decision he reportedly made to ramp up the defense of Kavanaugh ahead of a high-stakes hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee where the judge and one of his accusers will testify Thursday.

Attorney Michael Avenatti revealed on Thursday that reported sexual assault survivor Julie Swetnick is "demanding" an opportunity to be heard before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Since Blasey Ford first accused him of assaulting her at a high school party, some 75 women have rushed to his side to defend his character. She said this included fondling without consent.

Swetnick claimed she was gang raped and that Kavanugh was present at the time. An attorney for Mark Judge told NBC News that "Mr. Judge vehemently denies Ms. Swetnick's allegations".

In her statement, Swetnick said she previously worked for the Vietnam War Commemoration under the Department of Defense; the US Mint; the IRS; Customs and Border Protection; the State Department; and the DC government.

"Under no circumstances should Brett Kavanaugh be confirmed absent a full and complete investigation", he said on Twitter.

She claimed that she witnessed them "drink excessively and engage in highly inappropriate conduct, including being overly aggressive with girls and not taking "No" for an answer". Ford's accusations were followed by allegations by Deborah Ramirez, who said Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a dorm party at Yale University when they were both students there. Kavanaugh also denies her charges.

Judge Kavanaugh watched Dr. Ford's testimony at his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Swetnick said that she attended more than 10 parties with Kavanaugh and Judge between 1981 and 1983. "These boys included Mark Judge and Brett Kavanaugh", she alleged in the statement, naming Kavanaugh's high school classmate. "I want the American people to have those facts and judge for themselves", she said. "I believe I was drugged using Quaaludes or something similar placed in what I was drinking". Republicans plan to vote on Kavanaugh less than 24 hours later on Friday, though that could be postponed.
