The experts managed to film the center of Florence as it makes its way toward the east coast, igniting evacuations all across the Carolinas, Virginia and DC. The hurricane center said Florence will approach the coast Friday and linger for a while before rolling ashore.
The waves are produced by being trapped along with incredibly strong winds moving in the same direction as the storm's motion.

Florence's nighttime winds were down to 110 miles per hour (175 kph) from a high of 140 miles per hour (225 kph), and the Category 3 storm fell to a Category 2, with a further slow weakening expected as the storm nears the coast.
Forecasts generally project Florence to make landfall in southeastern North Carolina on Friday as a Category 3 or 4 hurricane. Even normal water is warm enough for a storm to form there, but this adds to the storm's fuel and its rainfall.

But one thing it might actually help is to reduce the overall wind speed, though we're still going to have gusty winds around here which combined with that wet soil could bring down some trees.

Hurricane Florence, growing in size despite its weakening winds, churned ever closer to the US East Coast on Wednesday as evacuations expanded south from the Carolinas into Georgia to counter the threat of deadly high seas and calamitous floods. Gov. Nathan Deal (R-Ga.) declared a state of emergency for Georgia Wednesday.
Duke Energy Corp expected between 25 percent and 75 percent of its 4 million customers would lose power in the Carolinas.
All 22 of the FBS and FCS games scheduled this weekend in South Carolina, Washington, D.C., Virginia and North Carolina were canceled or adjusted in some way due to the storm, according to CBS' Jerry Palm. All seven of North Carolina's ferry routes were shut down.
