Isaac Degrades To Tropical Storm; Helene's Forecast Sends It Away From Caribbean

Meanwhile, Hurricane Florence was 580 miles south, south east of Bermuda with winds of 115 mph and strengthening into a major storm.

Florence interrupted her stay on North Carolina's Outer Banks.

He said as far as the National Emergency Planning Organisation is concerned "we are taking no chances and we are leaving no stone unturned in respect to the preparation of the state, the country and its citizens for this incoming weather system". At landfall, Florence will also slow down so flooding becomes the third threat.

An average hurricane season includes at least 12 named storms - which may be less powerful than full-fledged hurricanes - and six hurricanes, with three of those being major storms.

Hurricane Florence's size is "staggering", National Hurricane Center Director Ken Graham warned.

And the timing couldn't be more apt: Monday is the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, when storm activity is historically at its highest. Hurricane Isaac is expected to weaken back down to a tropical storm by the end of the week, but will likely impact the Lesser Antilles by the middle of this week at a category 1 hurricane. "Storm surge and hurricane watches could be issued for portions of these areas by Tuesday morning", the NHC said, adding that at 11:00 a.m.

Florence is so wide that a life-threatening storm surge was being pushed 300 miles (485 kilometers) ahead of its eye, and so wet that a swath from SC to OH and Pennsylvania could get deluged.

Past year I was in the preliminary squad but, in the end, not selected. "We had met before as rivals", he explained. We want to have the ball, to create chance, press high and be aggressive.

Isaac gets into Caribbean in a few days as a hurricane but doesn't look like it will last to become a big storm.

Forecasters say the hurricane's strength is expected to fluctuate but it still will be a unsafe storm by the time it reaches the coast of SC or North Carolina on Thursday.

A storm surge of two to four feet above normal tide levels is possible near and to the north of where the centre moves through the Lesser Antilles. It was a potentially catastrophic Category 4 storm but was expected to keep drawing energy from the warm water and intensify to near Category 5, which means winds of 157 miles per hour (253 kph) or higher.

Hurricane Helene is in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean and not expected to be near any land.

Forecasters urged residents from SC to the mid-Atlantic to get ready - and not just for a direct blow against the coast.

"You never know, there could be tree missiles coming from any direction", she said.

While Florence draws eyes in the east, the entire Hawaiian Island chain is under a tropical storm warning in advance of Tropical Storm Olivia, which is expected to sweep through the islands on Wednesday. "There is no way to be completely safe".
