Australian Doctor Plays Crucial Role in Thai Cave Rescue Mission: Paper

The boys are said to be generally in good health but doctors are still evaluating whether they could have picked up any risky infections, such as the potentially lethal leptospirosis, while inside the damp cave for two weeks. They became trapped in the cave after heavy rain flooded the passageways inside.

On Sunday afternoon, Elon Musk tweeted that the kid-size submarine his team had developed to assist with the rescue of Thai boys trapped in a cave was en route to Thailand.

However, the experience can't be comfortable, and I don't even want to begin to imagine what it must be like for the person inside that narrow space, especially being a kid who's been trapped in that mountain for more than two weeks.

Narongsak said Sunday that the decision to try and rescue the boys and their coach on was made because conditions inside the cave were the best they could hope for and that water levels were now so low after days of good weather and constant draining that long stretches of the passage were now walk-able.

Four more boys have been evacuated from the flooded Tham Luang cave complex, the chief of the rescue mission Narongsak Osottanakorn confirmed at a news conference on Monday night (Jul 9).

Extracting everyone from the cave could take up four days, but Sunday's success raised hopes that could be done.

Night's relatives have said they believe the group went to the cave to celebrate his 16th birthday after a Saturday football practice and got caught as heavy rains caused the water inside the cave to suddenly rise.

About two hours later, the third and fourth boys were pulled from the cave 10 minutes apart, he said.

The boys, whose names have not been revealed, are being treated at Chiang Rai Prachanukraw Hospital in Muang district.

The boys are all part of a Thai soccer team that went missing weeks ago - before they were found on a rock shelf deep in the flooded cave.

Itinerary of U.S. President Trump’s visit to Britain
Prime Minister Theresa May will host the president and first lady Melania Trump for a black-tie gala dinner at Blenheim Palace . But the US President will spend hardly any time in London, minimizing the risk of awkward encounters with angry protesters.

Four boys were rescued on Monday evening following the four who were bought safely out of the cave on Sunday.

The children's families have not been told which boys have been rescued.

First of all, four of the boys were successfully extracted from the cave system.

The rescue has been underway ever since and eight of the boys are now out thanks to a team of expert divers.

"This morning they said they are hungry, and they wanted phad kra pao", he said. Rescuers sought to take out the boys in the weakest condition first.

And while oxygen is placed along the road, one experienced ex-Thai Navy SEAL diver lost his life last week while replacing the oxygen canisters. "But they still need to be kept away from their parents and others due to fear about infection", he said. Thai navy SEALs are leading the effort, but more than 90 rescue workers from around the world have been laboring in and around the dark, twisting cave.

"But if the rain god doesn't help, then it could be challenging".

The boys are being escorted out of the complex cave system via a team of divers.

The boys who were rescued on Sunday were strong and safe but needed to undergo detailed medical checks, he said.

So far those who have been released have been rushed off to hospital, and the most recent boys to make it out have been stretchered off.
