Meanwhile, Northern Command chief Lt Gen Ranbir Singh met Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan, today.

He was later appointed as Director General of world's largest paramilitary force - CRPF- after naxals killed 75 personnel in Dantewada in 2010.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said the government will not tolerate militancy in Jammu and Kashmir anymore and that operations will be launched to flush out militants.

Governor's rule has been imposed in Jammu and Kashmir following a recommendation by Governor N N Vohra.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Wednesday said the decision to exit the alliance with the PDP was not taken due to political considerations. "The view was very clear in the BJP, we wanted anti-terrorist operations to start again", said a senior BJP leader based in Jammu and Kashmir. There was a difference when they ruled the state first time.

A former army commander, who has served in the held-Kashmir, said security forces will have more freedom in launching operations against militants under the governor.

"Our only aim is that terrorism should end and peace should prevail in Kashmir and our government will work keeping this in mind", he told reporters in Lucknow.

After assuming charge as the head of the state administration, Vohra held meetings with top civil administration and police officials at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar. The governor was set to complete his second term in the coming days but now will continue in Raj Bhavan till the commencement of Amarnath Yatra which is scheduled to take place on August 26, 2018.

"The BJP, in its pursuit of power and political opportunism, in the past three years, disrupted the ongoing constructive engagement with the people of the state and has imperilled the security situation, setting the state of Jammu and Kashmir on a fire of anarchy, radicalization, malgovernance and corruption", Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni said in a statement.

"This alliance was unholy".

The BJP's decision to come on board with PDP was well reasoned, as it seemed appropriate and far-sighted. But better late than never. We are happy that it is over as this alliance caused agony and suffering to the people of the state, especially in the Valley. As political observers said pressure from the RSS led to the nullification of the March 12 directive, former CM Omar Abdullah of the Opposition National Conference flayed the development.
