Hirving Lozano’s Goal Stuns World Cup Champs In Massive Upset

18 June 2018

Hello and welcome to the live updates session of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation, we focus on the first game in Group F between 2014 World Cup winners, Germany as they take on Mexico.

The outstanding Hirving Lozano smashed the victor in the 35th minute at the Luzhniki Stadium, leaving Manuel Neuer clutching at air on his return to the German goal after a 9-month injury absence.

Meanwhile, Lozano termed the victory as one of the biggest in Mexico's history.

Attention now turns to England as they prepare for their opening World Cup fixture against Tunisia on Monday.

The last three European winners of the World Cup before Germany - France, Italy and Spain - have all exited at the group stage during their title defence.

Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa made a key save in the 39th minute - one of nine in the match - from a Toni Kroos free kick and stressed that the surprise three points for Mexico was historic.

Long used to the dominance of their national team, Germans are digesting their team's first defeat in a World Cup opening match in 36 years and wondering what will come next.

"The game against Saudi Arabia was actually a wake-up call". The central Americans, who have reached the last 16 at each of the last six World Cups, will need to be quick on the break if they are to catch their opponents off guard, as other teams have successfully done recently, including the Saudis.

Shawwal moon not sighted, Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan on Saturday
At 7.20 pm Thursday, religious leaders climbed the minar at Jama Masjid with a telescope, hoping to catch a glimpse of the moon. Eid al-Fitr is celebrated differently in each culture in the world, however its significance remains the same in Islam.

Mexico President Enrique Pena Nieto joined the party, saying on Twitter: "Confirmed: Mexico competes and wins against the best in the world, Congratulations to @miseleccionmx!" But two minutes after conceding the goal came Germany's best chance of the evening when Kimmich was brought down a few yards outside the box.

It means Mexico celebrated its goal so hard that it created its own natural disaster. In the first half, to a large extent, the players were coming back trying to recover the ball instead of playing deep, if we are not more incisive we will lose the ball. Germany then dominated but when it broke through the Mexican defence, the shooting was poor.

"I think it's a milestone for Mexican football", said Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio.

Germany coach Joachim Loew said the defending champions played "very badly,"warning that the shock defeat left them with little margin for error in their remaining group games".

His calming influence was crucial, marshaling the space in front of Mexico's back four as wave after wave of German attacks descended on the area.

Following Mexico's unexpected win over Germany, one El Tri fan couldn't hold back his emotions and proposed to his now fiancé.

Germany will next face Sweden next Saturday, while Mexico will play South Korea.

However, qualification is no certainty now as Sweden and South Korea are no pushovers.
