Putin said on Sunday he thought it was important that the two men meet and said he shared Trump's concerns about the risks of an arms race developing between Russian Federation and the United States, something he said officials from the two countries needed to discuss.
Putin's comments that he was ready to meet Trump came just a day after the US President rattled G7 leaders at a summit in Canada, where he repeated his appeal to the group to allow Russian Federation back in. The G7 countries (Canada, the U.S., U.K., France, Italy, Japan and Germany) had invited Russian Federation to their 1998 meeting but disinvited it in 2014 as Russian Federation "temporarily occupied" the Crimean Peninsula. "The meeting will take place as soon as the U.S. is ready, though my working schedule must also be taken into consideration", Putin added.
The two leaders met at the sidelines of 18th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit in progress at Qingdao, China.
The two-day SCO summit comes after US President Donald Trump controversially pulled Washington out of the 2015 worldwide pact with Iran that placed limits on its nuclear programme in return for easing economic sanctions.
"Italy has been left on his own on this issue but we must have reforms and we want to see some more solidarity within Europe", he told Italian reporters. Back in the day, our colleagues refused to come to Russian Federation for well-known reasons.
On Saturday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he told Trump that asking Russian Federation to rejoin the G7 is "not something we are even remotely looking at".
Merkel finds Trump's action sobering, depressing
The EU also won't be "taken for a ride" in its trade conflict with the United States , she said. Merkel said she first found out about Trump's decision on the flight back from Canada.
Putin's remarks followed a report that White House officials were working toward setting up a meeting. Tensions mounted between the Trump administration and fellow G7 members Canada, Germany and France when the U.S. imposed steep tariffs on imported metals from the countries.
Xi said he will work along with Putin to usher in even brighter future to the relations between the two countries. "The ball, I believe ..."
On Saturday, G7 participants slammed Russia's support for the Syrian regime and Moscow's attempts to undermine democracy at a meeting in Quebec City, Canada.
He adds Moscow will continue to honor its obligations under the Iranian nuclear deal. "As long as the terrorists are active, the region will not achieve its development goals", said Rouhani, adding, "fighting terrorism requires full cooperation and coordination among all countries of the region".
Putin thanked Xi for the gift saying, he values the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.
Xi and Putin also vowed to make "all possible efforts" to preserve the 2015 global accord on Iran's nuclear programme that Trump abandoned last month.
