Why 'Last Man Standing' was green lit over 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine'

15 May 2018

Both Homer Simpson and Tim Allen took the stage during Fox's 2018 upfront broadcast presentation at the Beacon Theatre in New York City Monday - and the last man standing was actually the cartoon.

Some fans may be drawn to the family sitcom because of Allen's personal political views, but they "aren't really a big feature of the show", Fox Television Group executive Gary Newman said. I'm sure audiences will be curious to see what we look like after all these years. "Even previous year when "Last Man" was canceled, we really looked for an opportunity to move it to our schedule and we just didn't have the right show to pair it with". It was hard for me. "And, you know, "Roseanne" certainly confirmed that".

"And that certainly made us think that this is a really good opportunity, that for broadcast viewers a beloved star in a really amusing multi-cam that has, again, a little bit easier entry point than a serialized comedy was a good idea".

Allen tweeted news of the Fox reboot on May 11.

"There's certain things in life you just know have reached their end-including the mayonnaise in the green room", a beaming Allen quipped onstage.

FRIDAY: 8 p.m., "Last Man Standing;" 8:30 p.m., "The Cool Kids;" 9 p.m., "Hell's Kitchen". But comic book fans will have something to tide them over - the network's X-Men drama The Gifted is returning, but moving to Tuesday nights before Lethal Weapon (with new lead Seann William Scott).

North Korea has begun dismantling nuclear test site, experts say
The North Korean announcement said the ceremony would take place between May 23 and 25, weather permitting. A move like denuclearisation would conflict the integral power structure of North Korea, Thae added.

Fox scheduled the comedy in the Friday night lineup, claiming that they "were emboldened by Roseanne", and nothing more. "Oh, s-t, I said ass".

The ex ABC show was among the very few pickups made by the network, which axed a number of its most popular shows, including Brooklyn Nine-Nine (which has since been revived by NBC). Fans rallied, and soon enough, word spread that multiple outlets had stepped in to save the beloved comedy.

Walden added that there was always wonder at the network about how "Last Man Standing" would do if it was prioritized in a way that ABC didn't, and "Roseanne" was the final push it needed. That rumor proved to be true. Other cancellations include "The Last Man on Earth", "The Mick", "Lucifer" and "The Exorcist". "Ultimately, we felt like we didn't have the exact right place to schedule it this year to perform best in our Sunday night lineup".

"We wanted to give 'Bob's Burgers, ' the Emmy-winning huge performer for us, the opportunity to have a plum time period", she said. "We really just felt it was a amusing show, the audience responded to it and there was an opportunity on our schedule particularly ... to put a great comedy that would attract a broad audience".

"And the show never really delves deeply into political viewers". The new season will reveal previously uncharted realms, including lost worlds and worlds to come, and those that we may one day inhabit in a thrilling future we can still have. We kind of assumed it would.
