The energy drink company's other team Toro Rosso celebrated a remarkable day, however, with fourth place for French driver Pierre Gasly. It was the four-time F1 champion's 49th career win on his 200th race start.
Vettel whooped with joy as he crossed the finish line, although his team's celebrations were more low-key than usual following the mechanic's hospitalization. Vettel pitted in the early stages to switch to softs, followed by Raikkonen in the next lap.
"I was doing the maths in the auto: 10 laps to go, with that pace he's going to catch me", a relieved Vettel said.
"I was doing the maths inside the auto - 10 laps to go at that kind of pace, I thought he was going to catch me".
"Today wasn't the best of days and tomorrow is going to be one of the hardest races for us in some time", said the world champion. Really happy I got the second run and got it clean.
Verstappen said: "We had a small issue this morning - these things happen so it doesn't concern me too much". "It was damage limitation".
"I started ninth so third is not bad at all", Hamilton said.
The mechanic was thrown to the ground, and was immediately attended to by paramedics before being taken to the track's medical centre.
Daniel Ricciardo was fifth for Red Bull while his team mate Max Verstappen crashed in the opening part of qualifying, losing the auto under acceleration out of the tight second corner.

Magnussen was able to hold off Hulkenberg and Alonso in fifth with Stoffel Vandoorne bringing both McLaren's into the points in eighth. There were also celebrations at Sauber, with Sweden's Marcus Ericsson finishing ninth for his first points since 2015 and the Swiss team's first of the season.
Raikkonen was the sole driver to lap in the 1:29 bracket.
Vettel with his fresh soft tyres quickly caught Hamilton and passed him into the first corner on lap 26.
It was feared he would be punished for an unsafe release - because his front right wheel was not attached properly - and given a grid penalty, but instead Ferrari were fined €5,000 (RM23,767). A Virtual Safety Car was deployed. Strategic pit stops and tyre choices turned out to be game changers for drivers through the race.
Raikkonen then made a second stop that threatened to inject a strategic variable into the lead fight but ended up removing him from the picture.
Valtteri Bottas was third, and out-qualified Hamilton in the process, but was 0.166 seconds off the pace of Vettel.
Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas was third.
A frustrated Vettel finally burst past the defensive Hamilton, on his original tyres, to re-gain the lead on lap 26.
Raikkonen and Vettel finished half-a-second clear of their Mercedes rivals in practice, and Vettel, while pleased with his team's progress, expressed caution over Friday's times.
He said: "There is always pressure and I am treating this like a normal weekend".
