President Donald Trump today visited West Virginia for a roundtable discussion on the recently-passed tax bill.

Speaking at the White Sulphur Springs Civic Center, Trump, flanked by two front-running candidates in the primary, alternated between taking shots at incumbent U.S. Sen. ManchinDems face hard choices on resources in battle for Senate House members demand Senate confirm Jim Bridenstine as NASA chief The Hill's 12:30 Report MORE (D-W.Va.) on Thursday, after cultivating a working relationship with the red-state Democrat previous year.

But, at various points, Trump veered off course to address issues such as immigration, trade, energy policy and the race for U.S. Senator Joe Manchin's seat.

"The lawlessness that continues at our southern border is fundamentally incompatible with the safety, security, and sovereignty of the American people", Trump wrote Wednesday in a memo authorizing the move, adding that his administration had "no choice but to act".

Trump urged West Virginia voters to vote Manchin out and replace him with a Republican. "I used the word 'rape, ' and yesterday it came out where this journey coming up, women are raped at levels nobody has ever seen before". He commented that Manchin voted against the tax cuts and health care. Hugh Hitchcock, who works at the Davis Trust Company in Elkins, said he was able to give his employees a raise as a result of the tax cuts. His remarks in West Virginia, like so many of his previous planned policy speeches, quickly came instead to resemble one of his free-wheeling rallies.

Severe storm threat returns late Friday
Rain eases to showers overnight and Friday looks mainly dry through the Capital Region - a welcome break between systems. Spring means severe weather and the State of MI wants to make sure everyone is ready with a state-wide tornado drill.

While Trump went off script, the attendees -an assemblage of state politicians, local business owners, workers and families - stayed dutifully on task, talking about how the tax cuts have helped them.

Trump has seized on news reports that the migrant group was traveling toward the U.S. Organizers of the migrant group said they never meant to reach the U.S. border.

"Percentage wise you are one of the most successful in the nation", Trump said of West Virginia's economy. "Millions and millions of people". Jerry Brown about earning his support for the deployment.

That's according to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. The president has been tweeting about the caravan all week and had warned Mexico to interdict it before the migrants arrived at the border. He said other countries have much tougher immigration laws than the USA, and that even those who are caught illegally crossing the border receive easygoing treatment under current law, which he wants to change.
