Donald Trump bans transgender individuals from serving in USA military

25 March 2018

"On Tuesday, March 27, Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN will be in court asking a federal judge to make the injunction permanent".

United States President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum that affectively bans some transgender people from serving in the military.

Under the new policy proposal, transgender Americans "who require or have undergone gender transition are disqualified from military service", while transgender troops now serving will essentially be asked to deny their own gender identity, as the Pentagon will be able to demand that they serve according to the gender they were assigned at birth. It added that "the Secretary of Homeland Security concurs with these policies with respect to the U.S. Coast Guard", which would also be affected by the policy. "Transgender people in our military deserve more from their government than a myth-driven proclamation about their unfitness for full civic inclusion".

"What the White House has released tonight is transphobia masquerading as policy", the ACLU's Joshua Block said in a statement accusing the administration of forcing transgender people to choose between their humanity and their country.

Those exceptions include current transgender military members who have been "stable for 36 consecutive months in their biological sex prior to accession", those who "do not require a change of gender", and transgender servicemembers who began serving under the Obama administration's initial policy rolling back the ban on transgender troops.

In a statement, the White House defended the ban as a common-sense way to "apply well-established mental and physical health standards-including those regarding the use of medical drugs-equally to all individuals".

Cynthia Nixon hits campaign trail
And that's why, until I see enough evidence that Cynthia Nixon can be an effective leader to change my mind, I'm not with her. Nixon, 51, is an ally of New York's mayor and is employing some of the same strategists who once helped Mr.de Blasio.

Ashley Broadway-Mack, president of the American Military Partner Association, slammed the decision by the president, "Donald Trump and Mike Pence are literally wreaking havoc on the lives of our military families". "This unconscionable attack on our military families can not stand - we refuse to allow it". "It is reverse-engineered for the sole goal of carrying out President Trump's reckless and unconstitutional ban, undermining the ability of transgender service members to serve openly and military readiness as a whole". It requires the discharge of trained, skilled troops who have served honorably for decades.

Mattis' assertion contradicts a 2016 study by the RAND Corp., which found that allowing transgender people to serve in the military would "have minimal impact on readiness and health care costs" for the Pentagon.

The news also prompted concern on Capitol Hill. His push for the ban has been blocked by several legal challenges, and four federal courts have ruled against the ban.

As noted by U.S. Rep. Dave Bratt, R-Va., during an appearance on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle", who was responding to a question of whether Trump was throwing this out as a concession to his base after signing the $1.3 trillion omnibus bill, people are exhausted of the U.S. Military being used as a laboratory for social engineering. Military LGBT advocacy groups put the estimate much higher, at around 15,000.

Last July, Trump threw everyone off guard when he took to Twitter to state that the USA government would not "accept or allow" transgender people to serve in the military; effectively banning their service in a rollback of an Obama-era decision to allow transgender people to serve openly in the military.

The reaction from the left online was collective outrage, resulting in the hashtag #ProtectTransTroops trending, but as Mark Dice noted: "Banning transgenders from the military is the best way to #ProtectTransTroops from harming the effectiveness of our military, or harming themselves due to their issues".
