Sexton's buzzer-beater lifts Alabama over Texas A&M in SEC tourney

09 March 2018

With four seconds left on the clock, freshman Collin Sexton charged down the court and put the ideal touch behind the ball to drop in the buzzer-beater to take down Texas A&M, 71-70, in the second round of the 2018 SEC Tournament Thursday afternoon at the Scottrade Center.

Alabama basketball standout Collin Sexton put the team on his back.

Tyler Davis has averaged 16.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks over the last five games for Texas A&M. Sexton then darted down the court and nailed a quick jumper to give the Crimson Tide a one point lead with 17 seconds remaining.

"Coach told me to race up the floor and get to the basket", Sexton said.

The Tide started the game strong and it seemed as if they would finish strong as well.

The Tide, who led my as many as 12 points, were in the process of trying to stop a furious Texas A&M comeback in the final minutes.

Throughout the game, Alabama used a string of runs, usually led by Sexton, to stop any momentum the Aggies gained. The Cowboys will face Kansas, the Golden Eagles battle Villanova, and the Irish will take on Duke Thursday, and each of those three wins would do more for them than a win over Auburn would do for Alabama.

The Crimson Tide are sitting on the bubble, and Sports Illustrated's Michael Beller has them in the "Next Four Out".

The game's Over/Under (O/U) has been set at 138.5 points with Texas A&M opening as a 1.5-point favorite. Petty scored 27 points, including eight 3-pointers, in Alabama's 76-71 win against Auburn in January.
