Cavs: In their usual January swoon, LeBron and Co. being questioned again

19 January 2018

Few teams are able to make the Warriors uncomfortable, as the Cavaliers can, and no other team has the best player in the world, as LeBron James is. Far from it, in fact.

"It's been very challenging", James said after practice Wednesday, via ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

Whereas Cleveland need LeBron to be the clear best player on the floor against the Warriors to have a glimmer of hope, Golden State just need Durant to be close enough to mostly cancel him out.

Although the team lost Kyrie Irving in a wild preseason blockbuster trade, they acquired star point guard Isaiah Thomas and added veterans Dwyane Wade and Derrick Rose to last year's star-studded roster. "We've played them in the Finals three straight years, and I guarantee you there was a moment like this in all three seasons - at least one, sometimes more".

But Kings James doesn't stop there. The team isn't panicking yet, but the veterans appear to know that the team isn't going to just flip a switch and begin winning again - something we've seen the Cavs do in the past. With everybody that's been out and coming back in ad the rotations and things of that nature has been very challenging, so we have to figure it out.

It was one-sided in the Finals past year, it's been one-sided so far this season and if - a major "if" - we see this play out again in June, it looks like it will be one-sided then as well. Thomas is excited to be a part of the blossoming Warriors vs Cavaliers rivalry for the first time since being traded to Cleveland.

Even so, AB Foods said Primark revenues were still 7% ahead of a year earlier in the 16 weeks to January 6. Meanwhile the group said that retail trading in the U.S. "has continued to make progress".

After losing 118-108 at home against the Warriors, the Cavs have dropped nine of their last 12 games, including four in a row. As we know, LeBron hasn't committed to Cleveland beyond this season.

Yet the specter of James leaving as a free agent this summer continues to hang over the franchise, making such a move highly unlikely even though it could give the Cavs the kind of bridge to the future Irving himself once represented as the top overall pick in the 2011 draft.

As for chasing a championship? "I've seen where people said "sources say" and I look down the roster and I don't see no guy named sources, so we gotta talk to Koby (Altman) about getting another position or something".

"That's our goal and that's what we got to work towards", James explained. That's what we're here for.

Smith is averaging a career-low 7.6 points per game, the third-worst true shooting percentage of his career and he's doing all this despite playing more minutes than he did last season.

The Cavs have a great chance to get off the schneid on Thursday night, when they square off against the hapless (13-31) Magic.
