Sea of Thieves Closed Beta Detailed and Dated

10 January 2018

The first official Sea of Thieves closed beta test is ready to take to the high seas.

Set to release on February 6, the Sea of Thieves controller debuts a full month and a half earlier than the game itself, which will become available on March 20. We revealed March 20 as our launch date and made a star of an unsuspecting chicken with a swashbuckling trailer, kicked off pre-orders, revealed how you progress through the world of Sea of Thieves, and showed off our haunting Limited Edition controller. Sadly, no details regarding what new features can we expect in the beta were shared. Players who either joined the Sea of Thieves Insider Program prior to December 1, 2017 or have pre-ordered the title will be able to access the beta.

The closed beta will be a "bespoke" experience according to Rare and it will give players a taste of the pirate action ahead of the launch.

Price at the pump continues to rise
Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg of the Lundberg Survey said Sunday that the increase is due to higher crude oil costs. Just last week gas went up two cents from $3.85 a gallon of regular unleaded to $3.87 a gallon.

The Sea of Thieves closed beta will run for five days, from 4 a.m. PST on January 24 to 12 a.m. PST on January 29.

Custom controllers for specific games aren't always great and they are rarely worth getting - a paintjob is unlikely to really make you want to spend even more on a controller.

If you pre-ordered the game through the Xbox or Windows Store, the game will appear in your games library 24 hours before the Closed Beta begins. I know a lot of players will be excited by this announcement - I am too!
