City gets its white Christmas after all

The Christmas snow may be a gift that keeps on giving.

The National Weather Service forecasts a white Christmas. A LAKE SNOW WARNING is active for Ashtabula County until Wednesday at 4pm.Several inches of snow is likely across much of the viewing area. Normal highs are near freezing.

The weather service said motorists are asked to use caution while driving.

The city hasn't seen snow on the ground on Christmas since 2009.

But things changed quickly on Friday when temperatures dropped back to the upper 20s and what was supposed to be only a few flakes became several inches.

Southeast Nicholas County, including the City of Richwood, is expected to receive two and five inches with its advisory expiring 9 a.m. Christmas morning. Those high winds may break tree branches and cause scattered power outages. Periods of snow and blowing snow will result in snow covered roads and limited visibilities.

A light snow of around an inch or less fell in Wyandotte County overnight.
