Nintendo Switch Tops 10 Million Units Sold

Nintendo Switch sales have topped 10 million, putting it on track with the PS4's launch year and even threatening to overtake Sony's console as we approach the Christmas period.

Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime said the company is pleased with the response from fans, and said the company is doing its best "to satisfy demand during the holiday shopping season". For comparison, Nintendo only sold 13.6 million Wii U consoles during its five-year lifespan.

Currently Nintendo can't produce enough Switch units to appease demand, with Nintendo Switch Black Friday deals selling out within two minutes of going on sale. Nintendo expects operating profit for the year to hit $1.06 billion, up from its original projection of $572 million. The concept makes it easy to "switch" from playing the game on the couch to taking it on the go.

According to P.J. McNealy, chief executive at Digital World Research, the gaming industry was ripe for something fresh like the Nintendo Switch.
