HD streaming support coming to OnePlus 5T, company confirms

The top post on the forum notes, "I would like to know why a £500 phone is not capable of fully utilising these very popular services and if there are any plans to rectify this clearly ridiculous issue." . The certification in question is related to the Widevine protections that many popular streaming services use.

Given that these smartphones from OnePlus support Widevine Level 3 now, it is unable for users to stream videos in HD from these popular apps mentioned above.

Naturally, owners took things to the official OnePlus forums to spread the word. Apparently, the OnePlus 5T is lacking the required certification to stream DRM-protected content in high definition. However, the exact reason for omitting this crucial feature in a phone that gets so much attention wasn't told. As Android Police explains, level 1 requires that content processing and control operations, which are meant to protect the copyright holder, happen in a "Trusted Execution Environment", which isn't implemented on the OnePlus 5 and 5T. Thankfully, a different user ran a DRM test on the OnePlus 5T, wherein he discovered that the handset only supports Widevine Level 3 that makes it incapable of streaming videos from services that are above the standard quality. The spokesperson was unable to provide a time frame for when the update will be made available at this time.

Besides welcoming them into five-day cricket, the BCCI has extended a helping hand to Afghanistan on a number of occasions. This comes as Afghanistan was granted Test Status by the International Cricket Council ( ICC ) late in June this year.

A company spokesperson told Android Police that a future update will enable Widevine Level 1 on both the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, which will enable HD playback from streaming services that are now blocked. With this display, if the consumers can not enjoy HD videos via specific apps, then it will definitely be a disappointment for many.

Since the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T come with hardware capabilities and Full HD resolution, it is such a let down for users.
