Microsoft launches 'Azure Location Based Services' Public Preview

30 November 2017

Business software giants Microsoft Corp and SAP SE have agreed to expand the use of each other's cloud-based products and services delivered via the internet, they said on Tuesday, as they laid out a common product road map for joint customers.

"There are many Azure services that you can use together with VMware workloads without any migration or deployment, enabling you to keep your entire environment secure and well-managed across cloud and on-premises", said Corey Sanders, Director of Compute, Azure.

On Monday, Microsoft and SAP unveiled integrated offerings to help joint customers digitally transform in the cloud, as well as plans to co-engineer, go to market, and support cloud solutions together.

Microsoft and SAP's announcement has already received support from a number of large businesses including Coca-Cola, Costco and Columbia.

This week, Microsoft execs said they would be using SAP S/4HANA on Azure to run the company's own internal finance processes. Both companies agreed 18 months ago to collaborate to combine Microsoft Office 365 into SAP. "By building on top of Microsoft's cloud, we believe this will make our data more accessible than ever and will empower developers to use our APIs to light up mapping scenarios for both consumer and commercial customers".

BYU women's volleyball: Cougars' NCAA Tournament path is set
This will be the Shockers' 11th NCAA appearance, but it is the first time they have gotten to host an NCAA tournament match. The spontaneous celebration would have given anyone not watching the TV a pretty good guess as to the opponent: Missouri.

"As technology transforms every business and every industry, organizations are looking for the right platforms and trusted partners to help accelerate their digital transformation", said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft.

SAP and Microsoft both will run SAP S/4HANA on Azure for their internal operations.

Microsoft isn't the only major cloud provider touting its partner ecosystem this week.

The move follows a similar cross-cloud integration partnership made between Microsoft and Adobe a year ago. If customers choose to run SAP on Azure infrastructure, they'll be billed according to virtual machine time and other Azure services they use. "The Microsoft and SAP alliance provides us with the assurance we need for our innovation in the cloud". In turn, SAP will shift some key internal business systems, including its Concur expense management application, to Azure.
