Soldier on leave found dead in J&K

The bullet-ridden body of Territorial Army jawan Irfan Ahmad Dar was found by the locals in the area. He was on vacation and had gone missing since yesterday. The body was lying in the pool of blood when villagers recovered it on Saturday morning from the field.

A CNN-News18 report says that the soldier's auto was found close to the body.

Following the incident, the police have launched an investigation to track down the culprits.

Eyewitnesses said that people from different areas marched towards the Watmullah village where Irfan was laid to rest.

"He was on leave till November 26", Army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said, adding Dar was "possibly abducted and killed" by militants. She tweeted, "Strongly condemn the brutal killing of Irfan Ahmed, a courageous Territorial Army soldier at Shopian".

"Such heinous acts will not weaken our resolve to establish peace an d normalcy in the valley".

Meanwhile, National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah on Saturday strongly condemned the killing of a young army soldier in Shopian and expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic incident. "My unqualified condemnation & heartfelt condolences to his family". He belonged to neighbouring Kulgam district. "Biggest failure of Mufti Govt has been security", he tweeted. He had come home on vacation when terrorists abducted him along with his vehicle.

Sepoy Irfan Ahmad Dar, posted with175 Territorial Army (Engineers) in Bandipora, had left home at Senzen village in his vehicle on Friday but did not return. "He was perhaps kidnapped by terrorists".
