Victoria's Secret Fashion Show: Katy Perry Reportedly Banned From Performing in China

19 November 2017

'The news reports I've been reading from the United States here in Shanghai regarding this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show are not an accurate reflection of what I'm seeing and experiencing on site, ' he said somewhat confusingly, since Gigi and Katy are definitely not there. Now it looks like another planned appearance is falling through.

On November 16, Gigi Hadid regretfully shared the news that she, too, would have to put her Angel wings on ice.

The ensemble caused intense backlash, as the sunflower has become the adopted symbol of anti-China protesters one year prior. The group was protesting the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement with China, which they felt would hurt Taiwan's economy.

Although Taiwan is part of the Republic of China, the island country has a separate internal government from the People's Republic of China, where the fashion show will be held.

If true, Perry isn't the only A-lister who won't make it to Shanghai, China.

Earlier this year, the model was called out for "discrimination" after a video of her seemingly imitating Buddha's appearance surfaced online.

From what most publications and commenters on social media say, Hadid has also been denied a visa to the country because of the racist video of hers that had surfaced in September.

But Hadid isn't the only model facing setbacks.

Sources exclusively told Page Six on Thursday that the "Swish Swish" singer had tried applying for a visa to enter the communist nation, but was denied by Chinese officials. Many including ulia Belyakova, Kate Grigorieva and Irina Sharipova from Russian Federation, as well as Dasha Khlystun from Ukraine were all denied the requisite visa. Still, without an announcement from Victoria's Secret, it was hard to view the graphics as definitive.

It seems like the show was doomed from the start.

.

E! News wrote that it appears that Bella Hadid is still participating in the fashion show, along with models Karlie Kloss and Martha Hunt.

It's also notoriously hard to get a visa to travel to China.
